Password Protect A PDF
Add a password to a PDF so it asks for one when opened.
Password Protect adds a password to a copy of your PDF.
Steps
On Home, under PDF Tools, tap Password Protect.
Tap Add a PDF and choose the PDF.
Type a password in Choose a password, and type it again in Confirm password.
Tap Protect, then Save or Share….
What You Get
- A copy of the PDF that asks for the password to open.
- Your original PDF is not changed, and still has no password.
If It Doesn't Work
- "Those passwords don't match.": type the same password in both boxes.
- "Enter a password first.": the password box is empty.
- "This PDF is password-protected. Unlock it first.": the PDF already has a password.
Limits
- Convertable cannot recover a lost password.
- This uses the PDF format's own password protection. It deters casual access but is not strong encryption. Do not rely on it for very sensitive documents.
- PDF tools do not use up your Free Plan conversions.
