Compress A PDF
Make a PDF smaller, best for scans and PDFs full of pictures.
Compress makes a PDF smaller by turning each page into a lower-resolution picture.
Steps
On Home, under PDF Tools, tap Compress PDF.
Tap Add a PDF and choose the PDF.
Tap Compress.
Tap Save or Share…. The new size is shown.
What You Get
- A smaller PDF with the same name as the original.
- Your original PDF is not changed.
If It Doesn't Work
- The file did not get smaller: a PDF that is mostly text may not shrink much. Compress works best on scans and image-heavy PDFs.
- "This PDF is password-protected. Unlock it first.": use Remove A PDF Password first.
- "Couldn't save the resulting PDF.": try again in a moment.
Limits
- Pages become pictures, so you can no longer select text in the compressed PDF. Keep the original if you need the text.
- Compress has one setting. There is no size choice.
- PDF tools do not use up your Free Plan conversions.
