Add Files
Add files from Files, Photos, drag and drop, or another app.
You start every conversion on Home by adding the files you want to convert.
Steps
On Home, tap the large area in the middle. On an iPhone it says Tap To Add Files. On an iPad it says Drop Or Tap To Add Files. On a Mac it says Drop To Add Files, and you can also click it.
Choose Choose Files to pick from Files or Finder, or Photo Library to pick photos and videos. You can pick more than one.
Wait while the files are added. A counter such as Importing 2 Of 5… shows progress.
Your files appear in a Files list. Tap Convert to go on. See Choose Formats.
Other Ways To Add Files
- Drag and drop (iPad and Mac). Drag files from Files, Finder or Photos onto the large area. It says Release To Add Files when you are over it. An iPhone has nothing to drag from, so it does not offer this.
- Open from another app. Use Open In, Open With or the Dock icon on a Mac to send one or more files to Convertable.
- Keyboard. Press ⌘O on a Mac or an iPad with a keyboard.
What You Get
- A list of the files you added, each with its name, format and size.
- Files with the same name and size are added only once.
To take a file out of the list, use the button on its row, or press and hold it (right-click on a Mac) and choose Remove File. Remove Files clears the whole list.
If It Doesn't Work
- "Convertable doesn't read .xyz files yet": that format is not supported. See Supported Formats.
- "... is a folder": open the folder and pick the files inside it.
- "Not enough space": a file needs about twice its size free on your device, because Convertable makes a working copy and then the converted file. Free up space and try again.
- "Couldn't Add Files": one or more files could not be added. The message says how many and why.
Limits
- Convertable adds a copy of each file. It keeps the copy for 24 hours at most.
- Folders cannot be added.
- Photos you drag from the Photos app are copied when you drop them.
